GM CAMI Assembly Ingersoll Retirement Incentives Update

Production team members considering retirement or exit at GM CAMI Assembly in Ingersoll have received an important update regarding retirement incentives, voluntary exit packages, and outstanding benefit disputes. A recent union update detailed the options available to eligible members, upcoming deadlines, and key issues still being negotiated with GM.

Retirement Incentives and Eligibility

The union has confirmed retirement incentives for two main groups of production team members:

  1. 30-Year Threshold Members – Workers with at least 29 years of credited service.
  2. 60-and-Ten Service Members – Workers aged 60 or older with at least ten years of service.

Eligible members may qualify for:

  • $60,000 cash incentive plus a $20,000 car voucher, or
  • $50,000 cash incentive plus a $20,000 car voucher.

For those who have already reached the 30-year plateau, the main choice is simple: retire September 1 with the package, or continue working without access to the incentive. For anyone reaching the milestone after September 1—for example, turning 60 in October—retirement would occur the following month under the same rules.

The union emphasized that once members cross these thresholds, retirement becomes mandatory.

Extended Sign-Up Deadline

Originally, the deadline to sign up for the retirement or VTEP packages was Friday, August 15 at 4 p.m. That date has now been extended one week, giving members until Friday, August 22 at 4 p.m. to finalize their decisions.

Sign-up can take place either at the union hall or the in-plant office. This firm deadline is meant to give GM and the union enough time to determine who is leaving, reorganize job assignments, and move the plant to a single shift.

VTEP Packages and Mid-Career Options

Alongside the retirement incentives, GM CAMI is also offering Voluntary Termination of Employment Program (VTEP) options:

  • For members with less than 12 years of service (as of July 1, 2025): VTEP packages are available and can be accessed starting next week.
  • For members with more than 12 years of service: discussions with the union office may open pathways for exiting under different terms.

These packages broaden the scope of the transition, allowing mid-career members who may not be close to retirement to also consider leaving the company with some support.

What This Means for CAMI Workers

The retirement incentives and exit packages represent both an opportunity and a deadline-driven decision for many GM CAMI workers. With new equipment being installed and the plant shifting to one shift, GM’s objective is to stabilize staffing levels quickly and reduce long-term costs.

For members, the choices ahead will shape pension income, healthcare coverage, and financial stability in retirement. The extension of the deadline to August 22 at 4 p.m. gives workers an additional week to review their options carefully.

GM CAMI Assembly workers are entering a pivotal period. Retirement incentives, VTEP packages, and shifting eligibility rules mark the biggest workforce transition in recent years. With deadlines fast approaching, workers should carefully evaluate their service milestones, financial needs, and pension considerations before making a decision.
